I am already bored of my 2007 Accord EX-L (any taker’s?) and I think I want another Toyota, rather a Lexus. So would your rather...

A Lexus GS430. Big, Powerful V8, Nice Styling.

Here in AZ they go for $10k+

Kinja'd!!!

2006 Lexus GS430

Or...

Kinja'd!!!

A 2002-2004 IS300. Nice looking cars (I would like the wagon if I could find a clean one) but it is hard to find a stock clean example. I could probably get into one of these for around $5k.

SO, would you rather, and why?

Thanks OPPOs!

A late 90s/early 2000s LS400 instead.

Depends what I was after. IS300, especially w/a manual, is more fun, but the GS is a nicer car.

Tough. Since you’re in Az, the older car doesn’t have to worry about rust. But limited vehicle inspections mean who knows what with safety stuff.

It depends on your cash position. If $10k is the MAX you can afford, go with the IS. If you only drive yourself or maybe one other, IS. Couple of kids? GS. Terrible Phoenix traffic? GS.

If it was me? Avalon.

IS300 Sport Cross because YOLO. That said, make sure to check the Wikipedia on the IS300. It looks like a fanboy went OCD on explaining the changes that occurred over the model years...which might be eye-rolling to some but is actually useful in figuring out what MY is best-suited to your tastes!

Im a sucker for an Is300, but I would only want a 5 speed with the LSD that hasn’t been molested...so I might as well hope for a 2000 gt to fall into my lap

If you can get an IS with a manual, it’s the better option - more economical too.

The GS V8 is a good car on its own merit, but that depends if you prefer power and comfort over driving involvement and low running costs from the IS.

An early LS400 is a very good option too. It’s like the GS but easier to live with, making it the best of both worlds. I’d go for the LS myself.

I would love an LS, but I don't LOVE that generation LS. I would take a 2008 if i had the money...

A buddy at my work just got one. He paid $5800 for it (which is about a $1k premium for the 5 speed). He said it took him 4 months to find one stock with a clean title.

I am leaning towards the IS because of the cash situation. Depends on how much I could get out of the Accord though. I would like to sell it and throw a few grand back in the bank account. That would be cool. I do like Avalon’s. But Pre-2014 they just look like a senior citizen car. (Full disclosure, My sister drives a 02 avalon.)

What do you think of an earlier GS? Like 99-2004?

The IS300 is lucky to get 25mpg. Economical it is not.

Well made cars with good engines. If I remember correctly that generation was also famous for having the most powerful brakes of its time.

But yeah, overall it would be like the other GS you suggested, except easier to live with (though maybe a little plasticy on the inside as a trade off). It’s worth consideration though.

True, but when compared to a V8 GS I’d imagine there would be a difference.

GS430, the GS always seemed better engineered while the IS always comes off as secondary in design

GS430 every day of the week. One of the few sedans I actually like. Fuel economy on the IS isn’t going to save any trees, so why not just get something superior?

Also ventilated seats.

Fair point. The gas mileage isn’t too different in either. I am only getting about 21 mpg in my Accord now.

IMO if you want something different than the IS is the way to go...I can’t remember the last one I’ve see on the road locally.

Slight update. I am working on buying one. Trouble is, this person wasn't planning on selling his but he is warming to the idea. He says he is ready to move on.
